ABOUT THE EVENT AND TRAFFIC REGULATIONS
L’Étape Chile by Tour de France is a one-day cycling event that will take place on Sunday, November 1, 2026, in Valdivia, Chile.
The event features three officially timed routes: 30 km (Family Route), 60 km (Short Route), and 110 km (Long Route).
All courses run through the spectacular landscapes of southern Chile, on partially or fully closed roads, ensuring safety and an authentic Tour de France experience.
Traffic management measures and temporary road closures for the event day will be published in advance on the official L’Étape Chile by Tour de France website and partner communication channels.
Participants are kindly requested to follow all traffic regulations, respect the instructions of the organizers and marshals, and maintain courtesy and respect toward fellow cyclists throughout the event.
REGISTRATION AND START PACK COLLECTION
Registrations will remain open until October 15, 2026, at 23:59 (Chile time).
Participants may collect their race number, timing chip, and official race kit by presenting a valid photo ID at the Expo and Registration Area, located in Parque Saval, Valdivia.
Kit collection schedule:
-
From Thursday, October 29 to Saturday, October 31, 2026
10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Any updates or early pick-up options will be announced in advance via email, the official website, and social media channels.
Please note that race kits cannot be collected on behalf of another participant.
Each registered rider will receive their race number information via email during the week prior to the event. Race numbers will not be mailed.
The race number must be securely attached to the participant’s back, remaining fully visible at all times, including in case of bad weather. It will be required for access to all participant-only areas and the start/finish zone.
OFFICIAL TIMING
Official timing will be managed through an electronic detection system operated by the official timekeeping partner of L’Étape Chile by Tour de France.
SUNDAY’S RIDE AND RACE
All official routes — 30 km (Family Route), 60 km (Short Route), and 110 km (Long Route) — will be fully timed, and the official final rankings will be determined based on each participant’s recorded time.
A selected number of flat sections and climbs will also be timed separately, contributing to the special Green Jersey (Sprint) and Polka Dot Jersey (Climber) classifications.
Each participant will receive an electronic timing chip together with the race number, which must be attached under the bicycle seat.
The chip will automatically activate upon crossing the start line and will record the time continuously until the finish line is reached.
Caution: Please handle your timing chip with care.
Do not bend, fold, or damage it in any way, as this may prevent it from functioning properly and could result in no recorded time for your participation.
Participants who do not follow the official route established by the organizer, receive external (human) assistance, or cross the finish line without a timing chip will be disqualified.
The electronic timing system used in the event meets the highest reliability standards. However, despite extensive testing by the manufacturer, a very small margin of undetected readings may still occur.
The organizer cannot be held responsible for such exceptional cases.
HYDRATION & REFRESHMENT STATIONS
AID STATIONS AND TIME LIMIT
During Sunday’s event, there will be a total of three (3) aid stations located along the 110 km (Long Route), and one (1) aid station along the 60 km (Short Route).
An additional refreshment station will be available at the finish line for all participants.
Participants must cross the finish line before 2:30 p.m.
Any participant who exceeds this time limit — even if they reach the finish line — will be disqualified.
CLASSIFICATIONS AND AWARDS
The best cyclists will be recognized according to the official race results.
Prizes and jerseys will be awarded in the following categories:
Yellow Jersey (General Classification):
Ranking from the first to the last participant based on official overall time, starting at the measurement point at kilometer 0.
The first female and first male riders to cross the finish line in Valdivia will receive the prestigious Yellow Jersey.
Polka Dot Jersey (King/Queen of the Mountains):
Classification determined by the fastest combined times on the designated climbs of each route — for both women and men — on the 110 km (Long Route) and 60 km (Short Route) courses.
Green Jersey (Sprint Classification):
Based on the fastest recorded time on a marked flat sprint section along the route, for both Short Route and Long Route participants.
White Jersey (Young Rider Classification):
Awarded to the fastest male and female riders under 25, based on official time.
All participants are also classified by age group according to their official race time, as follows:
Women: 18–34, 35–39, 40–44, 45–49, 50–54, 55–59, 60–64, 65+
Men: 18–34, 35–39, 40–44, 45–49, 50–54, 55–59, 60–64, 65+
During the event, random checks will be conducted to ensure compliance with these rules and to preserve the spirit of fair play and sportsmanship.
